January is National Train Your Dog Month, and it’s the perfect time to refresh manners, boost confidence, and strengthen your bond with your pet. Training doesn’t have to feel intimidating — small daily habits make a huge difference.

3 Beginner-Friendly Skills

  1. Name Recognition: Say their name → treat when they look at you.

  2. Sit & Wait: Ask for a sit before meals, doors, or leash clipping.

  3. “Leave It”: Start with a boring object → reward when they look away.

 5-Minute Daily Training Routine

  • 1 minute: Warm-up cue (sit, touch, watch me)

  • 2 minutes: Introduce or practice a skill

  • 1 minute: Play break (toy or tug!)

  • 1 minute: End on an easy win + treat

Training During Boarding or Daycare

At Downtown Dog Resort and Spa, we reinforce good manners, social skills, and positive interactions while your pet stays with us. Safe play, gentle structure, and plenty of praise set them up for success at home.
