St. Patrick’s Day is full of festive energy across Baltimore, and many dog parents want to include their pups in the fun. Whether you’re heading to a dog‑friendly gathering or celebrating at home, a few simple precautions keep the day safe and stress‑free.
Watch the Food and Drinks: Holiday foods can be risky for dogs. Corned beef is high in salt and fat, and many party foods contain onions or garlic. Alcohol, including beer, is dangerous for pets. Stick to dog‑safe treats instead.
Mind Decorations: Shiny beads, ribbons, and themed décor can look like toys to curious dogs. Keep decorations out of reach to prevent choking or intestinal blockage risks.

Choose Comfortable Costumes: If your dog wears festive gear, make sure it doesn’t restrict movement, vision, or breathing. Many dogs prefer a simple bandana over full outfits.
Provide a Calm Space: Gatherings can overwhelm some dogs. Having a quiet retreat area helps them decompress if excitement levels rise.
Of course, plenty of dogs prefer celebrating with their friends at daycare — where playtime is the main event and supervision is constant. However your pup spends the holiday, we hope it’s full of safe fun and tail wags.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Downtown Dog Resort!
